Course Objective:
The objective of the course is to provide an exposure to design and implement cyber security solutions using appropriate hardware and software tools. The contents of the course are designed to meet the industry requirements and make the participants exactly suitable for Cyber Security Industry. Participant will become well versed in design and development of secure software development, digital and mobile forensics, defense analysis techniques. They will be familiarized with cyber security governance, risk compliance and laws which help them to become a Cyber Security Professional and/or an Entrepreneur.

Course Outcomes:
This course provides basic knowledge and skills in the fundamental theories and practices of Cyber Security. The participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the broad set of technical, social, legal and political aspects of Cyber Security
  • Gain knowledge about secure software development, operating systems and Apply secure coding principles in software development
  • Identify the vulnerabilities and threats posed by criminals to national infrastructure
  • Demonstrate the skills required to maintain and operate Security Operations Centre(SOC)
  • Gain familiarity with prevalent network and distributed system attacks, defenses against them,and forensics to investigate the aftermath
  • Analyze threats and risks within context of the cyber security architecture; Appraise security violations and incidents to apply appropriate security solutions and practices

Course Contents:
1. Cybercrime Detection and Laws (30 hours)
Operational concept, Detection mechanism, Signatures, Intrusion detection, IT Act: Concept –Sections – Offenses, Digital laws and legislation, Law enforcement roles and responses, Basics of Indian evidence act: IPC - CrPC – Electronic communication privacy act, Legal policies.

2. Security Threats, Attacks and Malware Analysis (30 hours)
Tunneling techniques-HTTP, DNS, ICMP, Fraud Techniques: Phishing, Vishing, Smishing,Online frauds and offenses, Roque Antivirus, Exploitation: Techniques to gain a foothold Misdirection, Reconnaissance and disruption methods, Malicious codes: Self-replicating codes -Evading detection and elevating privileges – Stealing information and exploitation, Secure coding principles, Malware Analysis Techniques, Static and Dynamic Analysis.

3. Defense and Analysis Techniques (30 hours)

File systems - Data recovery - Log files- Registry - Traces - Program analysis in Windows and UNIX - Memory forensics: Importance - Capabilities - Framework - Dumping physical memory-Installing and using volatility - Finding hidden process - Volatility analyst pack, Honeypots,Malicious code naming and automated analysis system – DNS, Firewalls.

4. Network, E-Mail and Mobile Devices Forensics (30 hours)

Network Basics, Network related attacks, Investigating Network Traffic, Investigating router attacks, Using Network Tools: Unix Tools, Packet Sniffers - Email Forensics: Role of email in investigating E-mail Crimes and Violations - E-mail Servers, E-mail Forensic Tools, Mobile Device Forensics - Evidence Acquisition Procedures – Mobile Device Forensic Tools.

5. Security Operations Centre and Analytics (30 hours)
Introduction to Security Monitoring. Log Analysis and Correlation, SoC Architecture, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Developing Correlation rules

6. Cyber security GRC (30 hours)
Introduction to Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), GRC Lifeycle, Risk Assessment and Management, Information Security Management System - ISO Standards 27001, 31000, 20000 and 22301- Build of Information Security Management System based on ISO 27001. PCI-DSS,GDPR and Central Banking Compliance

Note:
Courses will be handled by experts from industry and faculty with domain expertise.

  • All courses will be enriched with necessary hands-on training.
  • Labs are well equipped with industry standard software and hardware tools for design,development, debugging and testing.
  • As part of this course, one week Internship is offered on Security Operations Center at Lakhshya Cyber Security Labs, Coimbatore; Pilot Projects on ISO 27001 and Ethical Hacking will be developed by participants.
  • Eligibility: Practicing Engineers working in Industry and Academia (Engineering students may also apply)
  • Schedule : 4 hours per week (either on Saturday/Sunday or in evenings)
